Direct Animation 16mm Scratch Film Workshop | Sam van Soest
We will paint, draw and scratch directly onto 16mm film, and afterwards you will receive a digital scan!
In this workshop, participants will paint, draw, scratch, and etch directly onto 16mm film. Using both archival footage and blank film stock, we will transform existing material and create new, dynamic works.
This hands on approach to filmmaking, known as direct animation or cameraless cinema, involves manipulating the filmstrip itself rather than using a camera. The session will begin with a short introduction to the history of this practice and its contemporary applications.
